OVERVIEW
We study the ecology, evolution, and functional role of fishes, predominantly small, bottom-dwelling “cryptos” (short for cryptobenthic fishes). These fishes, such as gobies, blennies, triplefins, cardinalfishes, are extremely abundant in tropical coastal ecosystems worldwide and account for almost 1/10 of all vertebrate diversity on Earth.
